The Dolce&Gabbana Fall Winter 2013 collection is strong on tailoring with a baroque yet restrained feel. The knitwear pieces embody the quiet opulence of the collection.
Old time glamour, 19th century strict occasion wear, sharp tailoring, hand finishes and yes, baroque inspired embroidery all feature prominently in the Dolce&Gabbana Fall Winter 2013 Menswear Collection. Its, rich and opulent, yet restrained and wearable. The small details like scuffed shoes, distressed trims and almost ripped up lapels lend the collection a feel of something unearthed in a treasure trove of fashion. The elaborate embroidery and the elegant tailoring stole the show, but the knitwear, in many ways embodies the essence of the collection.
Mix and matching has been part of the Dolce&Gabbana’s DNA since the brand’s conception, and here, we see it revisited for the FW13 collection. Thick felt herringbone fabric trimmed with ribbed light grey wool. There is something so easy and effortless in the look, but the truth is that the garment is highly finished.
Still on the note of mix and matching, here Prince of Wales print felt is mixed with ribbed wool and elaborate gold embroidery which is then hand treated to give the threat a worn out colour. Again, show stopping, opulent and luxurious, yet basic in its materials and concept- like the best garments from the past.
Occasion wear is a cornerstone in the FW13 collection: there is something perfect for every moment of the day. From business attire, to lounge pyjamas through to ornate eveningwear. Somewhere between the latter two, this cable knit ensemble of carrot shaped trousers and maxi belted cardigan is cosy and elegant.
You’re a fan of the baroque embroidery but think it may be a little too visually charged? Here’s the solution. Beautiful golden ringlets akin to gilded venetian stucco adorn this very special piece of knitwear. Opulent yet understated, wear it underneath a blazer or on its own with jeans.
The cardigan in some way is the new blazer. Cosy and sophisticated it’s less rigorous than the tailored blazer yet it solves many styling dilemmas. With tweet carrot shaped trousers, a white shirt and a dandyish bow tie it’s a perfectly fashionable semi formal look.
If you fancy a little more pazazz match an embroidered bolero jacket to a moss stitched jumper. The different embroidered patterns all match beautifully and they can be layered and the look can be personalized depending on the amount of opulence you want to display.
The Dolce&Gabbana Fall Winter 2013 collection is rather busy, so when wearing some of these magnificent embroidered pieces, simple is best. A v neck dark grey fine knot jumper is exactly what you need.
Crafted, and demure, this moss stitched jumper is very beautiful. Truly reminiscent of times gone by, everything about the item, from the colour to the type of stick is perfect for this old world collection.
Dolce&Gabbana are big on underwear as outerwear for women, and in this collection we see it creep into menswear too. This button collar fine knit ribbed long sleeve jumper is a perfect passe partout for the winter season.
